Which Macbook in late March 2025? - Apple have launched the M4 Macbook and MacBook Pro range, which means that there are stellar bargains out there for previous models. Make sure you choose at least 16 GB memory and 512 GB storage!
If funds allow consider this 16GB/512GB MacBook Air (14-inch, M3, 2024) at £907.99 on Amazon. It is a steal. When new this was £1,699! If you need to be even more frugal consider a 16GB/512GB MacBook Air (M1, 2020) at £639. M2 Macbook Airs are still available both new and refurbished too but you should avoid the 256GB model. There are lots of 8GB machines around too but they won't do for development work or other heavy workloads and for protecting your residuals when the time to resell or trade in 16GB or more will be far more desirable.
TL:DR – My pick of the week then is this 16GB/512GB MacBook Air (14-inch, M3, 2024) at £907.99 on Amazon. Always read the fine print and compare prices widely before deciding.

Introduction
Many enterprises still rely on software built on core technologies that are 20 to 30 years old. These applications were never designed to operate in the cloud and often depend on legacy architectures that complicate migration. Documentation typically assumes on-premise installations, leaving significant gaps when transitioning to AWS.
Bringing such software into the cloud requires careful planning, deep technical expertise, and a willingness to work around limitations imposed by outdated design principles.
Windows Server software wasn't originally designed for the cloud
Windows Server licensing presents one of the first hurdles. Organisations must decide between bringing their own licences (BYOL) or using Amazon-supplied licensing. Each approach has cost implications and affects how instances are deployed.
The choice of Amazon Machine Image (AMI) also matters. Microsoft-supplied AMIs are optimised for AWS, but enterprises may require custom configurations. Selecting the right EC2 machine type is equally important, balancing performance, cost, and compatibility. Additionally, Ethernet throughput must be considered, as some older applications generate high network traffic and require robust and more costly networking configurations.
TL:DR – Migrating legacy Windows Server software to AWS EC2 is challenging but possible with careful planning, modern security measures, and technical expertise. Establishing clear budget constraints and cost controls early is crucial to prevent expenses from spiraling out of control.

Software development is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Businesses and individuals must navigate a broad spectrum of solutions, ranging from no-code platforms to fully bespoke software development. Each category presents distinct advantages, trade-offs, and use cases, making it essential to understand where a particular need fits within this continuum.
Modern software is in an ecosystem is diverse, offering everything from simple, drag-and-drop no-code tools to highly tailored, custom-built applications. While no-code and low-code platforms promise rapid deployment and accessibility, bespoke development provides unparalleled flexibility and scalability. Businesses must evaluate factors such as cost, scalability, and long-term viability to determine the right approach.
For those unfamiliar with these classifications, no-code platforms enable users to build applications without programming knowledge, while bespoke software involves custom-built applications tailored to specific business needs. Understanding the nuances of software taxonomies is crucial for making informed decisions that align with business objectives.
TL:DR – The right software solution depends on specific business needs, balancing factors like speed, cost, scalability, and customisation. No-code works for simple applications, low-code offers more flexibility, customised off-the-shelf solutions bridge the gap, branded apps provide market-ready solutions and discoverability through the app stores, and bespoke development offers full control at a higher cost. Choosing the right approach requires careful evaluation of business goals and technical constraints.

In recent years, the spectacle of the Super Bowl has transformed into a showcase of advertising for emerging technologies. But previous failures among these companies might cause us to reflect on whether to fall for the hype this time.
Having a Super Bowl Ad Became a Status Symbol for Companies Because of Apple in 1984
Apple's iconic "1984" commercial redefined Super Bowl advertising. Directed by Ridley Scott and aired only once, it created an entirely new standard for how brands could use the platform. Instead of a simple product showcase, Apple crafted a narrative-driven, cinematic masterpiece that transcended traditional marketing. The ad demonstrated that a Super Bowl commercial could be more than just an advertisement; it could be a cultural moment. From then on, securing a spot in the Super Bowl became not just a marketing decision but a status symbol, signaling industry dominance and financial prowess.
TL:DR
– Apple showed leadership here, and companies followed. Not all with success stories to match. Past examples, such as the FTX debacle, suggest a precarious link between hype-driven marketing and actual sustainability.

In an era increasingly defined by video conferences at work or remotely, cloud communication tools (formerly known as group chat tools) have become indispensable, especially with platforms like Microsoft Teams rising to meet this demand. This article was prompted by my Teams Essentials invoice today and led me to review it and the related Microsoft M365 plans, focusing on features, pricing, and ideal user scenarios. Whether you are a small business exploring options or a large organisation needing advanced collaboration features, this piece aims to address your questions regarding which platform might better suit your operational needs. For more insights into Microsoft Teams, visit the official Microsoft Teams page.
TL:DR – This comparison reveals that Teams Essentials is a more feature-rich option targeted at small businesses wishing to use Microsoft’s collaboration tools without subscribing to the full Microsoft 365 package, unlike the free version of Teams which is limited in both features and capabilities. You might find Teams Essentials or a Microsoft 365 subscription compelling enough to justify the difference but it is hard to argue with a price point of free.
