Touted as the heart and soul of the Mac, software engineering senior vice-president Craig Federighi’s vision of a seamless fusion between the iPhone and Mac is perhaps finally realised with the advent of the Phone app on Mac.

TL:DR – The Phone app is in its first releasable version but make no mistake this is the start of a convergence at the heart of macOS.

Phone.app - new in macOS 26 Tahoe

Enabling users to make phone calls on the iPhone while on their Mac, the Phone app in macOS 26 Tahoe is essentially a liberation from the confines of having to have an iPhone close by.

With the execution of an actual phone call from the iPhone conducted through the Phone app on Mac, the newly added Continuity features transform the iPhone into a versatile extension of the Mac, allowing for better synchronization between the devices.

The Phone app, besides hosting an array of features similar to the iPhone version, brings additional functionalities like Call Screening and Hold Assist to the fore, which are aimed at enhancing convenience and productivity for users.

With an innovative mix of the stunning Liquid Glass new design and the introduction of the Phone app, the reimagined macOS Tahoe is sure to redefine the Mac experience for both power users and beginners.
